Highlighting that Guy Debord’s The Society of the Spectacle “summarizes the most coherent thesis of modern revolutionary theory developed by the Situationist International,” Leandro Katz published Negation and Consumption in Culture (New York, TVRT Press, 1972)
Focusing on the translation of Chapter VIII—from which it took its title—and preceded by theses 1, 2, 4, 30, and 32 as a prologue, this pirate and anti-copyright edition, presented in 1972 as an “unsolicited contribution” to the III Coltejer Art Biennial in Medellín, constituted the first edition in Castillian intended for public distribution of these texts. Sixty years after Debord’s work and fifty-five years after Katz’s, antipodes café presents a second edition, with new translations and features, as an “unsolicited contribution” to the new Medellín International Art Biennial.
